HUANG Sih-Ya’s work titled What happened with privacy? uses animals as a symbol to investigate the meaning of modern privacy and privileges. The composition depicts an ordinary indoor space. Two rhinoceroses are shown engaged in a passionate kiss while a woodpecker and a monkey try to stir up trouble together, with the bird attempting to switch off the lights while the monkey is trying to take a voyeur photograph of the precise moment. HUANG Sih-Ya uses a realist approach to create a realistic yet unconventional setting that serves as a humorous satire of emptiness and ludicrous nature of modern social news and the media culture that violate people’s privacy to secure newsworthy material.
