Artwork Appreciation
LIN Shin-Yuan’s print, Unfaltering Soul, shows a wrinkled face of an old man in the black and white color tones. The face seems to be buried deep in the dirt, integrated with the land, with two pineapple leaves blooming on top of the head. LIN Shin-Yuan uses the land, the old man, and pineapples to link together the symbolic meaning of old Taiwanese farmers’ dependence on the land. He believes that old farmers can find the dreams in life through planting crops, and it is a language of life. Even though there is no bright color, it reveals the meaning of life that depends on their dreams, allowing people to recognize the persistence and efforts behind dreams and witness their sincere attitude.
